#4501
Colour Design |
Supplies: ruler, compass, eraser, HB
pencil, primary and secondary colour pencils, and
8 1/2 x 11"
white paper |

Instructions:
Create a design using six geometric shapes (3 different shapes; repeat each
one once). Assign one different primary colour (red, blue and yellow) to
each of the 3 shapes. After deciding on an arrangement that allows each
shape to overlap another, lightly draw the shapes with an HB pencil. Avoid
having 3 shapes overlapping each other in the same area.
With colour pencils, colour the shapes
with the assigned primary colours and colour the overlapped areas with a
secondary colour (green, orange and purple). The secondary colour assigned
to a particular overlapped area should be the colour resulting from the
combining of the 2 primary colours assigned to the shapes. Eg. the area
coloured orange is where the red circle overlaps the yellow triangle.
|
Variation: This lesson can involve
organic shapes (free hand) instead of geometric.
|
|
Evaluation:
The drawing should display the student's
clear understanding of
1) geometric shapes, 2) distinguishing primary from secondary colours,
3) secondary colours resulting from combining primary colours and, 4)
overlapping.
