Gr. 2/3
#2301
Facial Expressions

Supplies:
eraser, HB pencil, and 8 1/2 x 11" white paper

Instructions: Draw four oval shapes for the outline of the faces. Before you draw each of the features of the faces, study the angle of the lines used for the eyes. Observe how the direction of lines support the mood being expressed. Notice how the happy face (1) has soft rounded features, the sad face (2) has droopy features sliding downwards, the angry face (3) has sharp features pointing inward, and the surprised face (4) has its features shooting upwards. Draw your favourite cartoon character four times and apply the expressions from the sample drawing.

Evaluation: The drawing should display the student's clear understanding of 1) direction of line, and
2) the appropriate direction of line to support the desired expression.
